Fast facts:
The Jura-Museum Eichstaett is a museum that forms part of the Bavarian Natural History Collections. It is dedicated to the palaeontology of the southern Franconian Alps. This is why the museum is mainly focused on the world-famous fossils of the 150 million year old Solnhofen limestones from the upper Jurassic. The fossils range from fragile little insects and crustaceans to huge fish. Highlights include the peculiar pterosaurs. The most precious exhibit is an original specimen of the early bird Archaeopteryx.

A special attraction of the museum is an exhibition that allows the visitor to compare fossils with living animals in aquaria. The visitor can marvel at real "live fossils" like Nautilus, the Horseshoe crab and the Gar fish. Colourful corals, other invertebrates and fish give an impression of the diversity of life as it existed in the coral reefs during the Jurassic in the region that is now the southern Franconian Alps.

A multi-vision show, interactive multimedia programs, films and special exhibitions complete the spectrum of information the museum offers.
